Thanks to sumasage, I now have an overwhelming urge to explain that there's a randomly wandering candycane merchant in the Arid Sea area who appears during odd-numbered hours on even-numbered days, and vice-versa, but will only offer candycanes for sale if all of your clothing is dyed red and white and your skills are set to add up to the date you encounter him times 42.
But... I'm not that mean.
I bet he DOES exist, though. Tell your friends!

Nowhere, I've got a few for sale at 10k a piece
Wintersday only items. Gone till at least next wintersday, maybe never to be seen again (Anet's decision - who knows? Mine will be more on November of 2006 - better get them while they are cheap ).
I only kept like 30 or so of them. Like the halloween items I figure they will either be worth gold, or worth showing off to chapter two newbies. Either way I'm happy and will keep at least one of each item (no matter how high they go) since I was there. I even have two candy cane shards that will not be sold unless the price is so high it is ridiculous (I do this in real life also - lots of personal memorabelia that is worthless to anyone but me).
Eh, I keep them for fun. If someone offered me enough I will part with them, though I'm sure you could find cheaper from those who really stockpiled them.

/agree...my opinion is the same as this, though through the events I gathered about 50 candy canes, mostly from gift pick-ups in the events, the snowball arenas and from a few wintersday gifts I gathered from grawl necklaces while farming candy cane shards.
I may use them in times to come, but personally I cannot see candy cane shards becoming a major marketing item. It's use: to remove DP, and this use is not available in PvP whatsoever. Where/when are you ever going to use it? Well, when you die, and feel the need to remove the death penalty. This would probably most commonly happen in missions, and major quests. But those who prefer to use skill in a game in which it is most prominent, will not have stocked up majorly on candy cane shards and will not buy them, they will simply cope with DP like they have done before. As for the people that have stockpiled hundreds and hundreds of them to sell for 'big money', I have one thing to say to you: Do it in another game that's not based on skill, these were meant to be fun little Christmas additions, not to be the basis for fortune-seekers to get big money.

/agree...death penalty is simply to penalize the player for dieing...candy cane shards will delete that, but really if you just play the game with skill, you'll cope with it.
Besides, if it does get to be an issue at all: Anet *whistles innocently*...*deletes every Candy Cane in the game*...*talks excitedly about Chapter 2*

Announcement: WTB all that stupid Candy Cane crap that people though was gonna be wor
I saw this coming. When Wintersday started I was very curious about how the Guild Wars economy would change and for how long. When the collectors started offering candy canes and Wintersday weapons and shields I thought, "Geez this stuff is fun to play with but gets old after a few minutes."
About 5 days into the wintersday patch I was sitting in Nolani Academy and saw a group of people buying Gargoyle Skulls for 150g and Charr carvings for 50g.
Being the conservative person that I am I decided to make my money off of the skulls and carvings because it was immediate. I would go to Piken Square and buy the items for 20-50g a piece and then sell them back to those idiots in Nolani.
Well, Wintersday is over now, and I made an easy 200K. But, if you go into any Ascalon district all you will see are those retarded candy cane horders trying to hock their now useless investment to anyone they can.
WARNING: DO NOT BUY WINTERSDAY ITEMS BECAUSE THEY ARE USELESS

I bought 20 CC for 3K two days ago, then the seller confessed her secret - farm skulls outside Nolani and trade them 1:1 for CC in Ascalon. So I went farming. It was great practice for my 55 monk. I had 130 when the snow disappeared - I was in Ascalon to trade skulls at the time. Pretty sad, and now I've got a bag of useless skulls.

I got about 90 of em and about 50 of the other items, il keep a couple on each char but like others have said you wont get to 60dp in PvE unless you forget a monk, might be handy for farming tho, i know several times when ive been farming with my monk ive been on high DP and have to start removing armour to keep going, would be much better popping open a candy to get yourself back in gear.
The snowmen are better than candy tho, i used a good 20-30 in fishermans trying to make a snowman beach party, they need to last longer.

Yeah, I made 235k off the buyers in Nolani and at the same time turned my CC stash over twice . So now I have 1007 candy canes. I admit, I will be selling 3/4 of them.

I was on a tough mission today, and the leader was passing out candy canes to anybody with 11% DP.
I politely declined, and didn't take one of my own either.
I have 400 of them.
I'll miss them when they're gone.

They'll stay in your inventory, sure, but you can't get any more.

Hrm, maby I should sell drunkard packages, Hunters ale + Dwarven ale + Absinthe + Witch's brew + eggnog + Spiked eggnog
I have about 60 of each haloween and 60 of each christmas item, except candy caned i farmed around 200 of those, I have no doubt they will be worth at least 700-1k later on.

I really just don't understand this big candy cane frenzy.
you people realize that a-net basically just gave you a handout and there isn't even red engine to spend it on in this game?
I farmed a few canes for me and my lan buddy to use, then spent the rest of my time in snowball arena.
if you guys have a bunch of clever strategies for playing the markets, use them in real life where 100k isn't just dumped on you from out of the sky.

I collected 250 cc as well in the hopes that they will be valuable one day, perhaps in the Summer or Fall. I don't know if they will be available again next Winter though.
I also stocked up on a few Winter Gifts to give away to some nice people in PUGs just for fun.
